The Duke University Center for International and Global Studies
The Duke University Center for International and Global Studies (DUCIGS) grounds its research, teaching, and programming on the deep, region and culture-specific knowledge and experience of its organizational units while exploring global topics, pursuing interdisciplinary and cross-regional collaboration, and welcoming new approaches within areas studies and global studies.
The mission of DUCIGS is to:
- Support, engage, and connect researchers, students, departments, and schools to work on international issues
- Promote interdisciplinary research and education to understand and engage with challenging global issues

Location Information
We are located in the John Hope Franklin Center for Interdisciplinary and International Studies (on the northwest corner of the intersection of Trent Drive and Erwin Road) on Duke's Central Campus, near the Duke Medical Center and the VA Hospital and across from the C4 and C5 bus stops.
The building is generally open Monday through Friday. Extended hours vary for special events on evenings and weekends.
When traveling to the Franklin Center for the first time, please be aware that there are multiple entities named after John Hope Franklin at Duke University.
- the John Hope Franklin Humanities Institute, on Buchanan Blvd;
- the John Hope Franklin Research Center for African American History and Culture, in the Rubenstein Rare Book and Manuscript Library on West Campus;
- the Franklin Gallery@History, in the Classroom Building on East Campus.
Transportation to the Franklin Center
There are many local bus lines that take you to the Franklin Center. The Transloc application is helpful when checking the location of buses in real time. The following local lines come within two blocks of the Franklin Center:
Durham Public Transportation
Duke Bus from VA and 9th St to the Franklin Center
Duke Buses from East Campus to the Franklin Center
Duke Buses from West Campus to the Franklin Center
Parking
Visitor parking is available at several locations near the Franklin Center, particularly paid weekday parking in the Medical Center Parking Garage II on the same block (enter from Elba Street).
Speakers and Presenters may be designated a Reserved Parking Space in the Franklin Center Parking Lot with advance notice.
