Multidisciplinary Conference on International Development

Student Poster Session at the International Development Conference

The Duke Center for International Development (DCID) and the Duke University Center for International and Global Studies (DUCIGS) hosted the first annual Duke Conference on International Development on November 15-16, 2018 as part of Duke at Home in the World-an initiative of the Duke Office for Global Affairs. This conference brought together the Duke University community with leaders, researchers, and other interested in international development. It served as a platform for engaging policymakers, showcasing exceptional work being done by our faculty and students, generating new ideas, and fostering productive partnerships.

This year's conference was organized as plenary sessions and concurrent discussions, each moderated by a member of Duke’s faculty or leadership team. The panel discussions had been designed to enable participants to understand and appreciate pressing development problems from the point of view of experts on the issues. The first day began with a networking lunch, followed by the opening keynote: “The Future of Development Finance.” It was followed by sessions on two current global policy challenges: multilateralism and migration. The second day started with a conference keynote: “Rethinking International Development.” The plenaries and panel sessions covered current issues in development, taking both geographic and sectoral perspectives, each organized and sponsored by various schools, departments, institutes, and initiatives across Duke University. Duke students from across the university presented various posters during a poster session, on topics related to international development.

This conference was a part of the Rethinking Development series co-hosted by the Duke University Center for International and Global Studies and the Duke Center for International Development.
