This presentation is an exploration of the unique challenges, simultaneous sexism and racism, minority women face in their STEM experiences. Using National Science Foundation findings as published in the "Women and Minorities with Disabilities in Science and Engineering Report", a case will be shown for the undeniable result of not overcoming these unique challenges. Conclusions on the social, ethical and economic implications will suggest "why it matters" and the "what now" response to the Double Bind dilemma. Dr. Ruthie D. Lyle is the first African American woman to earn a doctorate in Electrical Engineering from New York University's Tandon School of Engineering, previously Polytechnic University.
