In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the on-line journal American Diplomacy, there will be a screening of the film "America's Diplomats," narrated by actress Kathleen Turner and followed by a panel talk with three former US ambassadors. The panelists - all career foreign service officers, retired - will address the critical interaction between the State Department and the Department of Defense in rapid response areas, as well as their work with the myriad of other governmental agencies, addressing radicalization, foreign assistance, and public diplomacy - areas the public doesn't often think of in conjunction with diplomacy. And they will reflect on the many simultaneous global political upheavals faced by the United States today and how the new President will depend heavily on our US Foreign Service to foster a seamless transition from one administration to the next. Finally, there will be a "Hale & Farewell" reception honoring Duke University's former and next State Department Diplomats-in-Residence, Richard Jaworski & Jasper Daniels.
