Duke Celebrates International Education Week

International Education Week (IEW) is an annual celebration of global education and exchange. This year, Duke celebrated IEW from November 13th to the 17th.

During IEW, attendees were able to apply for or renew a passport without leaving campus, enjoyed international cuisine and learned about global opportunities at Duke.  The IEW schedule of events held at Duke in 2017 are below.   

Schedule of Events

Monday, November 13
Global Opportunities Fair: “Speed Dating” with global program representatives

12 pm – 1:30 pm
Rubenstein Library Room 153

Come out and learn about global opportunities at Duke! Meet representatives from Duke Engage, Duke Libraries, the Global Education Office, international and area studies, Duke Kunshan University and more. Learn how to get involved in global programs on campus and off to enhance your academic experience (and your resume). Collect stamps at each table you visit to earn a free Duke Global t-shirt. See you there!

Tuesday, November 14
Faculty Fulbright Panel

12 pm – 1 pm
Rubenstein Library Room 349

Duke faculty, join us for a lunch-hour panel and Q&A with faculty Fulbright alumni. They will share their experiences with the Fulbright program and answer your questions about the application process.

Spots are limited, so please reserve your spot online. Lunch will be provided.

Wednesday, November 15
Update on US-Cuban Relations from a Cuban Diplomat

12 pm – 1pm
John Hope Franklin Center Room 240
Ahmadieh Family Conference Hall

Hear a talk by Miguel Fraga, First Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Washington, D.C. since the re-establishment of diplomatic relations. A light lunch will be served.

Thursday, November 16
Duke Global Passport Drive

9 am – 3 pm
Penn Pavilion

U.S. State Department officials will be on campus for one day to accept passport applications and renewal applications on-site. Come by the Penn Pavilion between 9 and 3 to submit materials and ask any questions you may have.

This event is open to Duke students, faculty and staff on a first come, first served basis. Please review instructions before the event to make sure you have all necessary documentation.

Friday, November 17
Food + Films

12 pm – 1 pm
Perkins Library Room 217

Join us for a screening of short student films featuring students’ experiences abroad. International snacks will be served. Come a little early for some pre-screening global trivia!
