On March 23, 2021, the Duke Center for International and Global Studies (DUCIGS) and the Duke Center for International Development (DCID) organized a webinar on El Salvador's recent trends on gang violence. The event hosted four country experts and was moderated by Duke University's Piotr Plewa and Sarah Bermeo. In a Wednesdays at the Center event, DUCIGS rebroadcast “John Hope Franklin: Redefining the American Story,” a panel discussion that explored the life and legacy of celebrated historian, scholar, activist, author, and Fulbright alumnus, Dr. John Hope Franklin. The event was featured as part of Fulbright 75 , the 75 th anniversary celebration of the renowned program.

El Salvador—one of the most dangerous countries in the world—recorded in 2020 the lowest number of homicides in decades, according to panelists at “Violence in El Salvador: Which Way Forward?, a virtual talk organized by the Duke Center of International and Global Studies (DUCIGS) in collaboration with the Duke Sanford Center for International Development.
